A secret I'm afraid to talk about / Writing exercise, Ch. 2

I have a secret I am scared to talk about
In fact, no one knows
until now
that you are about to find out

I have very greedy eyes

My eyes look for things that should be forbidden for them
Hidden things
Private things
Concealed things

Those things decency says you should hide from me
Those files on your computer you don’t want me to see
Those photos you took only for yourself
Those letters addressed to someone else
Those notes you took on your diary

My curiosity knows no bound
and, sometimes,
it misbehaves in a way
that makes me not too proud

What would people say?
Worst of all
what would people effectively hide away?

There is an undeniable delight
in getting away with knowing
the unknowable

I have very private things too

The letters
the photos
the memories
of my past self

I keep them, you see,
so that others
as greedy as me
should one day find themselves
delighted to steal away secrets
just like me
